One of my pet projects over the last few weeks has been to build a simple advertising management platform for Wordpress. OpenX has dabbled in this arena before, and has built a plug-in which will easily integrate with OpenX Hosted or Downloaded versions.
However, most users of Wordpress do not need a full featured ad server for their blog. So, we decided to build an entirely separate plug-in which serves ads on its own. We have worked with Mutube, the writer of the very excellent Adsense Manager plug-in, to provide the base to our Wordpress plug-in. The plug-in has the following features:
- Automatic detection of over 10 3rd party ad networks and adservers, including Adsense, CJ, OpenX and others
- Simple UI which integrates completely in Wordpress
- Support for older versions of Wordpress, as well as the newest release, v2.7
- Ability to rotate multiple ads in ad zones
- Ability to optimise your ad networks by modifying the weight (% of time they show), and ability to allow ad networks to compete with the OpenX Market for the highest eCPM
- Easily place ads within blog posts, or in your WP templates
- Many more features which make this an incredibly useful tool for your blog!
Advertising Manager for Wordpress is currently being beta tested by a few trusted folks. We are looking for a few others who would be willing to test the plug-in, and give feedback. Hopefully, we can then release Advertising Manager for Wordpress Beta very shortly.
Please PM me or respond in the comments if you are willing to help!

Being a Wordpress user myself, I’m glad you guys are looking into this area. I’ve seen some other advertising manager type things for blog systems, but having an official one will be great news.
Can’t wait to try it out!

Hello Scott / Mutube,
I`m Ramoonus, i`m a direct webmaster for a handfull of dot NL`s at the moment. I`ve been using OpenAds for over 2 years now and WordPress for almost a year now.
I always try to use widely used WP themes and plugins and i keep my installations daily up to date.
I`m willing to betatest the plugin on a site or 2 atleast.

Scott,
Please contact me on the given email address for my comments.
We’re just about to launch a new fashion blog and would like to test it out. We already have installed the plugin to use the OpenX ad server we have installed, but would like to test this full separate plugin, which would allow us to keep the sites standalone and self-revenue bringing.
It will be interesting to know if OpenX go further for other CMS and blog platforms such as Joomla etc…
- Jase.

I launched Birthday Bonus Club January 1 and I’ve been amazed at the popularity of the site it its first month. We have attracted over 7,000 members and served 1.5 million pageviews.
The next step is to introduce advertising which is the real “product” of the club - members receive ad credits in exchange for birthday donations. So - I have an audience and potential advertisers.
The website is WP 2.6 and I would be quite happy to assist in beta testing. I will also be running my own ad server using Open-X
Thanks
Tom

I’m at the point where I’m actively looking for an ad manager for some of my wordpress sites, and OpenX comes highly recommended. Along those lines, I’d be interested in testing out a wordpress plugin.

This is one of the best announcements of the year!
However, I have a special need and I can’t say from the screenshots (although the 3rd one with Advanced options looks promising) if revenue sharing for multi-author blogs is taken care of? We serve over 300K impressions daily (Direct, AdSense and affiliate campaigns).
For every article written by one of our co-editors we display their Adsense PubID (in a 100/0 or 70/30 split, depending on the author) bases on WordPress’ post_author field linked to OpenX Source > Variable. Would this construction work with Advertising Manager (and OpenX on a dedicated subdomain)? I’ve used Martin’s precursor plugin way before and I know back then it offered multi-author/revenue sharing, but I can’t remember in which way.
Anyway .. if all my questions can be answered with a ‘Yes We Can’, then I’d really like to apply for a beta test

I hope the plugin will allow for more than just page/category/home/etc ad selection to enable per keyword or page/post ID/custom field/etc so that specific ads can be targeted to specific content. Is this possible?

The Sales Corner would really like to try this out under the Beta Program. Let us know how to proceed!
Comment by The Sales Corner — February 10, 2009 @ 11:14 pm
I run several sites on Wordpress blogs, and have experience with the adsense manager. I’d be happy to give it a whirl.
If you don’t need beta testers, I’d love to know when a release is possible. This would be an excellent toy for me as I’m in the process of setting up several ad contracts.

I thought this was a working plugin and installed it and set it up and got nothing..
I can see the script text in the source, but the banners aren’t displaying on the page.
Was hoping to find some help here but I can see it isn’t released yet?
