Newsletter Issue #2
The last six weeks have been really hectic for us as we’ve added a new section, Revenue, and launched a new service offering, Consultancy.
Community consultants wanted!
We’ve received many emails in the past from publishers and users of Openads software asking for help to install, train, configure and develop custom features for them. In response we started a Consulting offering to help publishers use our software better. We’ve had hundreds of requests for help and now are swamped with work!
If you are a full-time consultant, IT programmer/developer or work for an IT systems firm with experience in OA 2.0 or 2.3, please get in touch with us so we can send business your way.
Revenue section success
The new revenue section is a success. We’re getting positive feedback and over 2,000 publishers have tried the new ad networks we have introduced to the community.
But, we can always do better! How can we improve this section? What would you like to see? Tell us.
Openads enters Second Life

Matteo, a senior developer at Openads, had a little time free over Easter, so he decided to bring Openads to Second Life. It’s just a proof of concept but we think it’s pretty cool!
What’s Coming Up…?
- Joomla comes to Openads!
In a month we hope to have a quick, easy plug-in available for Joomla so users of this popular content management system can use Openads as well.
- Over one billion McDonald’s hamburgers served!
Everyone knows how many Big Macs have been served worldwide, how many Skype
users there are at any time…and soon you will be able to see how many ads Openads Community members serve!
We hope you enjoyed this edition of the Openads community newsletter. We will try really hard to get back to you every month with more news and information. As always, let us know your thoughts!

I just downloaded and began installing Max Media but may hold off implementing it. Will the Joomla solution have the Open Ads and Max Media options?

What ever happenned to the Joomla project? Is it dead? Asleep? Ready to launch? Pleeeeeese help. Integration with Joomla is a real showstopper for me at the mo and I can’t afford to pay for a developer yet.

Also interested to know if this Joomla integration ever happened - I can’t see it anywhere.

You always can create your own MODULE in Module Manager and add the OPENADS code to the just created MODULE.
Just make sure that you don’t have any Default WYSIWYG Editor configured.

I will have to build a module too, kl_php mambot is referenced in the joomla forums. The OpenAds plugin would be popular indeed.

The team at Openads has been busy at work on 2.4 as well as the subsequent releases. The scale of the effort meant other projects, such as the Joomla module, had to be put on hold for awhile.
We realise the importance of building out our plug-in architecture. We are reviewing the work begun for CMS integration, and other similar modules. Look out for an update in the new year.
In the interim, there are a large number of references already available in the community for integrating Openads with CMSs, such as Joomla. Examples include:
http://docs.openads.org/openads-2.4-guide/quick-start-guide.html
http://blog.openads.org/11/how-to-implement-easy-and-effective-ad-targeting-using-openads/
Thanks again!

Please Developers! Do not underestimate the need for such a plugin for Joomla 1.5. Banner managers are coming out all the time for Joomla, so there is a need for it. But none of them is so advanced as OpenAds. It would be a tremendous success for both community if you could integrate the OpenAds to Joomla 1.5.

Great to know OpenX is growing up. OpenXmods.com is consulting company to serve needs of Openads/Openx.
OpenXmods.com has 20 engineers in its Electronic City, Bangalore Office.
Also, Openxmods.com has developed lots of innovative mods and plugins which is really unique.
And, we are very sure, OpenX users are going to grow in years to come
