We’d like to introduce another Openads competition winner John from Operation Photo Rescue
OA: Congratulations John, you’ve won an Openads t-shirt.
John: Thanks! I’ll wear it proudly.
OA: Have you been using Openads for long?
John: Yes, I’ve been using Openads for years now and I’m currently integrating Openads 2.3 beta into a new website called Operation Photo Rescue.
OA: Tell us a little more about Operation Photo Rescue
John: Operation Photo Rescue is a worldwide group of photo restoration volunteers who are restoring pictures damaged by natural disasters FOR FREE. After our volunteers restore the damaged photos, we then have a couple of printing shops that print them and send them back to their owners, again at no cost.
We started OPR right after Hurricane Katrina and we are still restoring images to this day. We are going to be going back down to Biloxi, MS at the end of August to get more pictures to fix. Openads will be a big part of the next phase of our site.
OA: What role will Openads play on the site?
John: Restoring pictures for free is not cheap, but luckily we get a lot of donations to offset our operating costs.
We are a non-profit organization, so we’re very sensitive to money issues. We are using Openads to promote various events and promotions that our organization is a part of. For example, currently we are promoting our trip to Biloxi and a special promo that the National Association of Photoshop Professionals has extended to our members.
While we’re not currently advertising to make money we love the idea that Openads will allow us to create a revenue source in the future.
OA: What are the most important features of Openads for you?
John: The most important feature is ease of use. What could be an intimidating challenge has become an almost turnkey ad server solution. Just add ads! It is SO much easier than manually placing banner advertising throughout a website.
We have volunteers from all over the world so we plan to use geotargeting in the future to target ads and other promotional activities regionally.
OA: Have you tried the new Openads 2.3 beta?
John: Yes, actually we’re using Openads 2.3 on the Operation Photo Rescue forum website already. It’s working great and, as usual, installation was a snap. I also really like the statistics maintenance in the beta.
OA: Thanks for taking the time to talk with us. Good luck with Operation Photo Rescue, it sounds like a fantastic project.
John: Thank you. It’s the least I can do considering how effective Openads has been advertising for me… for free, might I add.
Thanks again for the Openads t-shirt!

I’m proud to be a member of OPR and am so glad to see John get acknowledged and rewarded for his incredible work on our website. I’ve often wondered how he manages to incorporate so many interesting and fun items into our forum, and it would seem that Openads deserves credit for some of that excellence. Kudos to you and to John!
