OpenX Hosted Beta and OpenX Market Alpha

by Scott Switzer on October 16th, 2008

There’s been a lot happening at OpenX as we get closer to releasing the hosted version of OpenX Ad Server, or as we now call it, OpenX Hosted.

Progress Update
We’ve been working away furiously to build a rock solid hosted ad serving platform, and along the way, inviting more and more publishers to help us with the last stages of beta testing. We’re working through the remainder waiting list now, so don’t be surprised if an invitation arrives in your email inbox soon.

Hosted Feedback
OpenX Hosted is the same ad server you can download for free at openx.org so why would you want us to host it for you?

“With OpenX Hosted I can start serving ads straight away.”

“This saves me time and money. I am not adept at managing the ‘behind the scenes’ tech stuff. Now I don’t need to do any installation and maintenance work. I am SUPER excited!”

“With OpenX Hosted, I don’t have to use my server resources and I always have the latest updates.”

“Now I can provide a professional and respected ad serving platform to my clients.”

Something new: OpenX Market Alpha
OpenX Hosted users will notice a new feature we’ve enabled, called OpenX Market. The OpenX Market, currently in alpha, will let publishers allow advertisers to directly bid on their ad inventory. We’re piloting the OpenX Market with OpenX Hosted beta testers to tune the Market to be as useful (and profitable) as possible for the OpenX community.

The neat part is that OpenX Market will only increase publisher ad revenue because an OpenX Market ad will only be displayed when it makes a publisher more money than they are making with their own ads.

Give it a try. It can only increase your ad revenue and your feedback at this early stage will help us make the OpenX Market a great way to access loads of advertisers!

Sign-up to try OpenX Hosted and join the OpenX mailing list for updates.

  1. Good news, i like OpenX. I want test your hosted version for comments in my blog carrero.es (in spanish).

OpenX Hosted vs Google Ad Manager. I’ll prefer the open source solution, OpenX.

  3. What are your long term plans with the hosted version of openX – any payment structure, etc? As I’m sure you understand, we, along with probably others, are hesitant to put much resources into migrating too much here and not knowing what the future may hold.

    Thanks,
    m.

  5. Interesting news about the market! I figured it was only a matter of time before we’d see something like this… look forward to seeing how it shapes up!

  8. Great news. Love to see the new products coming out. How long does it take to receive notification of acceptance into the beta program for Hosted and to try Market.

Do I understand correctly that with Market I can place my own ads? Can I select what category of sites and target the ads by location?

Thanks. Keep up the great work.

Thanks for the feedback. We are working through our backlog at quite a clip now. I would expect an invite within a week, if your site is approved.

The Market lets you target site category and location. If you are interested in buying ads on the Market, let us know, and we will send you out an invitation when it opens to direct advertisers.

    Thanks again,
    Scott

  10. @Mika: Just wanted to thank you publicly for raising this issue. We’ll definitely publish a clear long term plan for OpenX Hosted including prices for services and support we’d like to offer. I’ll address this in a new post.

    cheers,
    Oliver George

  11. Scott,

is there any limits using the hosted solution, I mean, let’s say what I delivery lots of ads a month, could I be kicked out according to my numbers?

I just got my invitation and I exited to test it… but I really wanna know this.

    Thanks!

There are no technical limits to ad volume. There will be a cost if you want high volume or support. We are finalising the pricing now, and will be communicating this to the community within the next week.

Thanks – I hope you like it!

If you are unsure of how to implement OpenX yourself, OpenX has a consulting team which provides installation, training, and configuration services. In addition, there are several members of the OpenX community that provide similar services. Here are some links for more information:
